After 20 years of behind-the-scenes advocacy, the Willamette Pedestrian Coalition had ambled to a crossroads: as pedestrian fatalities continued to rise, it was time to go big or walk home.

So they asked me to help them figure out exactly how to do that. When all was said and done, I’d piloted them through a name change, a revitalized mission, a new logo, a new website, a new name and look for its signature fundraising event, and this film, which I scripted, shot and cut to debut the new identity. (You can learn more about the full project here.)

“Since when did getting there get so… out of balance?

What if there were a better way? One that didn’t take filling a tank or emptying a wallet? One that kept our bodies and minds healthier? Kept our communities wealthier. Our air cleaner, our lives richer?

“And what if the answer was as simple as… walking?”

Being able to walk safely around a city shouldn’t be a luxury – it’s a fundamental human right. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the folks at Oregon Walks, we’re getting closer. In fact, we can walk from here.
